Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
