Thrice-crowned award winner Jokic suffers a 'devastating' injury to his knee.
Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic endured a "devastating" knee injury as the Denver Nuggets fell 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury in the latter stages of the opening half following an unintentional contact with teammate Spencer Jones.
Jones came down on the footwear of the big man, who instantly collapsed to the floor grabbing his knee.
The veteran player, who leads the league this season in rebounds and assists, had 21 points and eight assists in the contest before sustaining the setback.
Jokic will have an MRI scan on the following day to assess the seriousness of the problem.
"Immediately, he realized he was hurt," commented Denver head coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever that gets hurt, that's difficult, particularly somebody as talented as Jokic. We'll find out more tomorrow."
"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, right now, I am focused primarily about Jokic personally and the frustration of experiencing a situation like that."
