This Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence Against Speculators

Marking the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration has been formed. The Pokémon Company and London's Natural History Museum are opening a pop-up shop featuring special items. Fans can look forward to offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork that are drawing from the institution's theme. The big draw, though, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. The store will operate both on-site at the museum to its web counterpart between late January and mid-April.

Pokécology Behind the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a highly anticipated volume packed with beautiful illustrations depicting creatures in their wild environments. It's essentially like what a Pokémon Professor might publish after trainers provide field notes, or what Charles Darwin could have sketched if the famous islands were populated by Pidgeys rather than birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's serious treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara and artist Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Promo Card Stand Out

The company regularly to issue to release promos for major tournaments and brand collaborations. Many such collector items typically highlight the iconic electric rodent who serves as the franchise mascot. What distinguishes this new promotion apart however, is the distinctly bigger dimensions. Although precise specs have not been immediately shared, its distribution will certainly be highly restricted, and customers limited to only a single card per purchase.

Curbing Speculator Interest

According to an official announcement, some of the pop-up items may also be available beyond the museum walls. However, broader availability will only be specific stores in the UK. Importantly, fans will not be able to acquire this promo through the online Pokémon Center. Although reseller interest is a given, the setup suggests they will have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. For those feeling left out, there is the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to the Windy City later this year.

"Every penny of sales from the museum store and its web shop, including these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the efforts of hundreds of researchers who are conducting studies to discover answers to the global ecological crisis," it notes.
