Individual That Touched Ariana Grande during Film Launch Banned from Singapore
An Australian man that leaped past a barrier and reached for Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been sent away and banned from Singapore.
The man, twenty-six, was handed a penalty to more than a week in jail for causing a public disturbance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to news outlets.
The man shoved beyond security and rushed toward the celebrity, who was attending the Asian debut for the film on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
He has a background of causing disturbances at events and star-studded occasions, including jumping on stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in June this year.
The incident provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with many accusing him of causing further distress to the star.
The pop star has mentioned dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her concert in the English city in May 2017 resulted in the deaths of over twenty people and affected hundreds.
In the legal process, the authorities learned he had attempted to intrude on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a follow-up try to cross the barriers. Event security prevented him and restrained him.
The man subsequently shared video clips thanking Grande for letting him on the carpet and said he was "at liberty."
Law enforcement arrested him the next day and brought charges against him with public nuisance, to which he confessed.
The District Judge Christopher Goh was referenced by a news outlet as remarking that the man sought attention, adding that he was mistaken to assume he would not suffer any consequences.
The singer has not commented on the case.
The co-star spoke about the situation to NBC, remarking that she "just wanted to make sure my colleague was protected."
"I think he had no intention to us harm, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I wanted to ensure that she was fine. That was my immediate response," she said.
