Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

His passing follows just weeks after he unveiled his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose impact on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
