‘A Man Who Will Be Deeply Missed’: The Actress Meg Ryan Posts Moving Tribute to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Tragic Discovery

Reiner was located lifeless with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home this past weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being held without bail. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy discovered her father deceased.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan continued. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

Children Share Their Grief

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Peers Pay Their Respects

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, similarly honored Reiner with a statement shared yesterday alongside tributes from Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the statement said. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner whilst filming When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.

Reiner’s extensive filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
